 Spurs set a record.
The Japanese National side suffered heavy defeats against the London team Tottenham Hotspur, who played three matches in Japan during May and June. Spurs won all three games with scores of 6-0, 7-1 and 3-1 respectively, and in doing so scored the highest number of goals against the National team during the last ten years.
Previously, the heaviest defeat of an All Japan Selection was by a score of 7-1 in a match with the West German Amateur Selection, during the 1961 Japanese tour in Europe. After the modernization of Japanese soccer by the West German coach Dettmar Cramar in 1962. the National side had never conceded more goals.
However, Spurs failed to establish an attendance record. The paid attendance of 40,700 for their second match against Japan was the third highest at the National Stadium in Tokyo, but Arsenal had attracted 50,520 spectators at the same stadium in1968.

 Middlesex Wanderers.
The British Amateur Selection team "Middlesex Wanderers" made their third visit to Japan during June and July, playing six matches against a "Japanese Selection" composed mainly of junior players, and one match against the National team.
The Wanderers were the first foreign football team to appear in the provincial cities of Akita, Kofu and Shimizu, thus contributing to the development of soccer in these districts, while members of the team were able to enjoy visiting these areas of Japan.

 A Korean team in Japan.
"The Korean Football Club in Japan", which is composed of Korean residents, will celebrate its tenth anniversary this August. Although the team is not registered by the Japanese Football Association, the match between the Korean team and a "Kanto(eastern Japan) League Selection" was recently officially recognised by the Association.
The Korean team has never taken part in any domestic championships, but is regarded to be of the same standard as the Japanese League clubs. There are about 600,000 Korean people living in Japan; members of the Korean F.C. have the nationality of the Korean D.P.R. (North Korea ).

 Financial scale of the J.F.A.
The balance sheet of the Japanese Football Association showed a deficit in 1970 for the first time in its history, although the financial scale of the Association has been increasing every year.
The J.F.A. accounts for the period April 1970―March 1971, which were recently presented at a Council meeting, showed a total expenditure of about 334,000,000 yen(928,000 U.S.*), and an income of 306,000,000 yen (850,000 U.S. $) for the year. The difference was made up from the Association's reserve fund.
However, the scale of the sheet showed an increase of 60,000,000 yen (167,000 U.S. $) over that of the previous financial year, and the J.F.A's current budget is 42,000,000 yen (117,000,000 U.S. $) higher than that of last year.
The Treasurer of the Association explained that an increase in the number of international matches had caused the unbalanced growth. For instance, the gate-money taken at the friendly matches between Eusebio's Benfica Lisbon and the Japanese National team had brought in a considerable amount for the Association, but Benfica's travel expenses and performance fees were so high that the profit was not sufficient to finance activities promoting the development of Japanese football.
